Need and Ways to Clean Filter Cloth for Improved Results

Filter Cloth New Zealand - New Bridge Services

It is very important to take proper care of filter cloth as it plays an integral part in enhancing the performance of the filter press. The filter cloth is believed to serve as the initial barrier that is responsible for separation of solid particles from the liquid portion of the slurry. During the filtration process, the filter cloth starts accumulating microscopic particles which eventually become plugged.  This is many times responsible for a lower rate of filtration and a wet filter cake, which after some time reduces the efficiency of the filter press significantly.

Cleaning filter cloth is quite easy as it just involves few simple steps. The cloth can be cleaned without being removed from the filter plates. The most common method is cleaning the filter cloths by using a portable cold-water pressure sprayer. The only thing that one needs to take care of is not put the sprayer too close to the cloth as it may tear. It is best recommended to keep the spray pressure under 1,000 PSI in order to avoid kind of damage to the cloth.

In many cases, acid wash is also recommended as the dust particles won’t get separated with water spray. However, just remember that acid washing is only an option in case the chemistry of the sludge is reversible and not anything else.
