3 Commonly Asked Questions about Skip Bins

Skip bins are used extensively in Australia for the removal of domestic and commercial rubbish. They are supplied in a range of sizes for their variety of applications.

When buyers come looking for skip bins for sale, they have some typical questions to ask of the suppliers. Listed below are answers to three of these.

What can we put in the bin?

Skip bins are used for general household clean ups, yard cleaning, moving house, building remodelling and landscaping works. They help by collecting any kind of non-hazardous wastes generated through such activities.
Things that should not legally go into a bin include food scraps, liquid wastes, unsafe chemicals, poisons, needles and syringes, explosives and any environmentally unfriendly substances that are likely to cause injury or damage to anyone.

What size of bin will we need?

Suppliers who have been in this trade for long have a variety of sizes to suit their clients’ needs. Some bins sized 3 cubic meters or more have a tailgate for ease of loading. It is best to state your specific needs to the suppliers and ask them for recommendation on size.

Do we need Council permission or a permit to use the bin at our premises?

If a skip bin is placed and used on your own property, you will not need permission or a permit. However, if the bin it is to be put on a public land, on nature strips or on sides of street you will need to consult the local council to see if it calls for a special permit. Different councils in Australian states have their own rules about the usage.
