Here’s How to Maintain Your Farm with Care

Your crop is coming out well. Your farm animals are comfortably settled in and you are looking forward to improve the harvest for the next season. Nevertheless, you still need to maintain your farm property. By giving it a little extra attention, you can get better returns from the farm you have been diligently working on. Here are few things to take care of:

Cattle Panels – The fencing in and around your farm must be well maintained to keep your animals safe and avoid altercations with the neighbours. Do walk around the fence line 3-4 times a week to check for damage and repair it properly if you spot anything amiss. The damaged posts must be replaced and any loose ones need to reset.

Farm buildings – Just like the fence and panels, your barns, coops and covered shelters for animals will also need regular inspection and periodic repairs. Just carry a little diary in pocket and note down all that needs to be taken care of – painting of walls, fixing of leakages, padding up of animal shelter for changing weather – and then fix a day to do everything together. Call for professional help where necessary.

Plant cover crop – A good way to improve the condition of unused pastures on farm is by planting a cover crop. This is a form of green manure that will make your soil fertile, suppress the weeds and even help you in organic pest control.

Lastly, in the hustle-bustle of daily tasks, do not ignore your long term farm plan. Stick by it and keep revisiting the goals to ensure that you are on the right track.
